History of the Indianapolis Prayer Breakfast
In 1942, members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives began meeting privately on an “off the record” basis to talk, pray and think together each week. The example set by these small gatherings has fostered scores of groups of its kind, not only in our nation’s capital, but in many parliaments around the world.
In 1953, members of Congress invited then President Eisenhower to join them for a fellowship breakfast in the Spirit of Christ. The National Prayer Breakfast was born out of the warmth and spirit of that first meeting. Each year since, at a time near the opening of Congress, members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, involved in fellowship, invite responsible people from every state and almost every nation to join the President of the United States for this time together.
Following this tradition, the city of Indianapolis held its first annual prayer breakfast in 1993. Prayer Breakfasts have been held in Indianapolis annually since then.
We invite you to come join us at our next annual prayer breakfast and be a part of making a prayerful impact on the city of Indianapolis. |
